Islamic Content: Muslim Characters
Abdul loves telling stories but writing them is another thing. The letters and words don't come out just right. He has decided that some stories are meant to be written, but not his. When he meets Mr. Muhammed, a storyteller himself, he finds new inspiration.
This book is a masterpiece. The text and words are just beautifully written. the illustrations are so vibrant. The Black Muslim representation is not only present through the characters, but also in the detailed settings which makes this story a complete package when it comes to representation. I think we have all been in a position where we find it difficult to articulate ourselves in beautiful ways. Especially in classroom settings, it is a natural human tendency to compare our work with those next to us. It beautifully showcases the importance of children having role models that are a reflection of themselves. I love that Islam is a normal presence in this story without it being the dilemma of the protagonist. If you haven't read this story, you are missing out. It is a must read.
