Summary:

Bilal moves to a new school and is faced with a bully who enjoys eating other's lunches. He makes it his mission to stop the bully from taking advantage of other kids. It is with wisdom that Bilal is able to overcome this big hurdle and influence the bully to change his ways. 🌸

Lessons:

I truly love books in which the child is the hero in the story especially with an important topic such as bullying. Not only does this book promote the idea of standing up to the bully, it highlights the importance of using your wisdom and solve it in a subtle way in order to avoid the increase of conflict. I appreciate the fact that Ramadan and Eid are included here, however it is not the main focus of the story line. A few other gems that can be discussed with your child is kindness, patience and more importantly, people CAN change. I think because the tone of the story is not meant to be silly, the name of the school would have worked much better if it was more realistic instead of Curiously Complex Elementary School. Also, the illustrations remind me of clip-art pictures which is a shame because the story itself is so well written and executed. I got my copy from Amazon.
