Review:

This is a re-telling of a comical Arab tale. The illustrations are vibrant and colorful. This book is a fun way to teach the little ones numbers in Arabic. The repetitive counting throughout the book is written in Arabic along with its transliterations and, of course, the numbers. The silly tale had my little ones giggling at the idea that a grown up is making such a simple error in his counting. I like that the story doesn't point out where Jouha's flaw is. It is shown through the illustrations and left for the little ones to use their critical thinking. Jouha is the wise fool, as described in the book, famous for his foolish ways in the Middle East. While he is known as Jouha in some Arab folktales, others know him as Nasr-uddin Hodja or the Mulla. This is definitely a kid-friendly silly tale.
