Summary:
Huda is not a hijabi. But she has a dream that she had a hijab stuck to her head and was unable to remove it. When she goes to school with it, all her friends and class mates did not welcome this new change in her. When she woke up from the dream, it prompted her to go through a stage of clarifications about wearing it.
Review:
This book is an easy read chapter book that discusses hijab. Huda's mom is there to answer her curious questions. When Huda decides that she will officially wear hijab, she realized that the reality of her peers accepting her with it much better than her dream. She finds support from family, friends and classmates. The book explores that the idea of hijab is not something new in Islam, but other religions have different types of headwear. It includes information on Mary Mother of Jesus and the modest way she is depicted in the Christian faith and that the Qur'an dedicated a chapter to her, may Allah be pleased with her. The book is a fairly quick read. At times it did feel a bit preachy but in a book that is faith based, a bit of preachiness is expected. I absolutely love that this book emphasizes that hijab is worn for the sake of Allah rather than try to give a list of different reasons to convince us so. Definitely pick up this read for your book shelf.
