Omar and his family have moved to a new house, and with that comes another set of challenges: new neighbour, new school, and, every kid's nightmare, a bully. To help Omar cope and adjust, he brings along an imaginary dragon to keep by his side. At school, he is seated next to Charlie, a boy who quickly becomes his best friend. The two of them are continuous picks for Daniel the bully to unleash his mean and sarcastic taunts. On their way to a school organized field trip, Omar and Daniel get lost in the London train station and things take an unexpected turn.

Review:

The Muslim series of 'A Diary of a Whimpy Kid' This hilarious chapter book will have you and your kids giggling out loud. Literally. I love that we have a book that our kids can relate to in such a funny way. It was initially published by @muslimchildrensbooks titled 'The Muslims.' In this book, the Muslim family is shown doing tasks of daily life, like any other: parenting, work, school, sibling rivalry, etc. It does cover an array of subjects in a light humorous way like 'do we really shower in hijab?' and national entitlement of 'get out of my country.' I personally think these topics were handled with such care that is fitting for this particular book without making it the center of the story. Omar really expresses his views in a charming and funny way so 1. Muslim readers can relate to those feelings and realities and 2. shed light into some stereotypes that others may have about Muslims. Lots of Islamic information in this book about Ramadan, Laylat ul-Qadr, fasting, eid, the power of dua and trust in Allah. It's a great book for all, not just muslim kids. The copy I have is the UK version, and they are about to release the US version next month. The 2nd book, Planet Omar: Unexpected Super Spy, will be released next month in the UK and later in the year in North America.
