Review:

This is the 2nd book in the tri-lingual Sofia series. The book introduces the reader to traditional Mexican dishes, games, and most importantly, Spanish vocabulary. This read really shows our kids that Muslims come from so many diverse backgrounds and opens up conversations about languages and cultures. The back of the book includes a glossary of 30 words in three languages: Spanish, English and Arabic. The illustration style is so adorable. Ramadan and Iftar are mentioned but I didn't feel that it was at the front center of the story which is fine. However, part of me wishes that this story included something about Sofia's family making space and time for their Maghrib prayer even in the presence of their non-Muslim relatives. It would give the story more depth, meaning and relatability. Overall a recommended diverse read for our Muslim bookshelves.
