Summary:
Nuh gets frustrated when his attempt at his homework doesn't go as planned. His dad explains that fasting is not just about avoiding food and drink, but it is about controlling our behaviour and our emotions. So Nuh finds himself in situations where he is able to change the outcome by reminding himself that he is fasting and fasting is his shield.
Review:
I love that this book brings something refreshing to the Ramadan books collection. It doesn't follow a character that is experiencing their 1st fast or it doesn't plug in an oblivious character to ask 'What is Ramadan?'. It takes it a step further and talks about managing emotions while fasting. The illustrations are so adorable. The text is written in rhyme. Sometimes the rhyme is flawless and sometimes it is awkward and forced. I read it to my daughter at bedtime, and it does feel like it's a bit too long.
Nuh is a very likeable character. His frustration with homework is relatable to the readers and listeners alike. This book fills a gap in the Ramadan Books genre.
