Summary/Review:
If you have loved Tamara Haque's first book, this sequel doesn't disappoint. This book covers another diverse Muslims who have influenced and/or contributed in different fields. The individuals chosen for this compilation include sahabas, scientists, athletes, founders of Islamic centers, scholars and more. I have to be honest and embarrassed to say that I had never heard of some of these individuals and their contribution and have learned so much from this book. I was particularity intrigued by the story of Omar ibn Said, an Islamic scholar who was enslaved in America and his determination of holding on to his deen throughout his life. I also appreciated learning about a Bosnian Mathematician during the Ottoman era and his many contributions in math, geography, history and much more. My absolute favourite thing about this book and the 1st one is that the biographies show that their faith is what has fueled the careers of these Muslim Heroes.
Our kids learn about many euro-centric scientist and contributors, in school and projects. Having books like these to fill the gap about the Muslims and their successes in the world is of utmost importance. For one, their world view of seeing success stories that do not focus on European stories, will widen their knowledge. Most importantly, as Muslims they will see that Islam encourages knowledge and propelled these Muslim figures to make a difference in their communities and the world at large. these stories can serve as motivation to push them towards their dreams while holding on to their deen. I definitely recommend this book for personal libraries, Islamic classrooms and libraries.
