Lessons:
This book was sent to me in exchange for an honest review just in time for Eid. This picture book is packed with layers of gems and lessons for the little readers. Something as profound as family, culture, tradition, diversity and love is displayed in such a beautiful and simple way for the young readers to understand. Although her grandmother is not Muslim, she clearly shows her love and affection through all her efforts to make this important holiday special for Sofia and her family. Her mother is shown without hijab except when they attend the masjid. Little Sofia is relatable to so many Muslim kids as most of them are exposed to multiple languages so it is a wonderful read for any household. Throughout the book, the reader will learn many new Spanish terms (I counted exactly 30) as well as a few Arabic ones. There is a glossary to refer to on the last page. She sings a song to her cousins however there is no reference to music that is made. Due to the timing of the release of this book, I assumed the Eid in reference is al-Adha but in fact they are celebrating Eid al-Fitr.
