Thaer and his family has left home and everything feels dark. He tries to find the colors he left behind in his new life again, but him and his mother struggle to see them.
This picture book is a story of the Nakba, The Catastrophe. A story that highlights a crucial part of Palestinian history that we all should learn about. This picture book is the perfect spark of source to introduce the Nakba to the mini listeners in your household.
I have had this book on my mind since I first came to know about it, even before publication. The symbolism of this story is quite powerful. It drew me in from the beginning and had me study every page. the journey, the memories, the loss, the turmoil, the emotional pull; it's all present in every page. Thaer's glimmer of hope and willingness to put his emotions on drawings is powerful, even when his mother was struggling to understand it. The illustrations, the separation of the colour tones really pulls the weight of the changes of mood in the story beautifully. The end of the book includes, a glossary and an informative/resilient author's note. I am glad I have it on my collection.
With the high price point though, I assumed I would be getting a hardcover copy. It is a soft paperback. I got my copy from @crescentmoonbookstore. Use code #mkbn for 10% off your order.
